Dive Masters and guides will gladly take you around different dive sites so feel free to ask them for suggestions. There are also scuba diving courses being offered in Sabang, which range from beginner level to master level.

Want a Different Perspective? Try Snorkeling

You don’t have to be a scuba enthusiast to enjoy Sabang’s prolific coral reef. Just rent a banca (boat), grab your snorkeling gear and you’re good to go! Marvel at the vibrant marine life from a different view. You can even feed the rainbow-colored fishes as you snorkel. Snorkeling is certainly a fun activity for family and friends.

Go Food Tripping

Any kind of trip would not be complete without scrumptious food. Sabang is ultimately the place to go for some good chow. Restaurants in Sabang have many dining options to offer for every kind of food lover. Several offer different types of cuisine which range from native to international dishes. Some even offer a specialty each night. Freshly caught seafood is readily available everywhere in Sabang! Just make sure it’s fresh. Prices of the food are relatively cheap plus you can enjoy the view of the beach while dining. You can also have a barbeque feast with the family by the beach or by the resort pool. Some resorts can provide you with the barbeque utensils and equipment. You can either buy the raw meat and seafood yourself or ask the resort staff to purchase them for you.

Go Island Hopping

Who says you have to stay in one beach alone? The beaches of Puerto Galera are one of the biggest tourist attractions in the area. You can rent a boat for only $35 and it will last you the whole day. Island hopping is not limited to just moving from one island to another. You can experience a variety of activities as you go along your tour. An island hopping tour can take you to several beaches where you can bask in the sun and enjoy the fine white sand. Enjoy the picturesque view and relax as if the island is all yours. Take a dip in the water or enjoy a trek at the breathtaking Tamaraw Falls, which has a league of its own. You can even bring your own snacks and drinks and have a fun picnic by the beach.

De-stress By Getting a Massage

After a long and tiring day, all you want to do is drop on a bed and relax. An hour long of good massage will definitely make all the stress and muscle tension fade away. You can get a massage by the beach and under the shade of the coconut tree. There are several masseuses strolling around the beach, bringing their massage oils with them. You can pay them about $5 dollars or even less. If you prefer a more serene and private atmosphere, you can request for a massage service in your room. Some resorts boast a range of impressive therapeutic massage and spa services that will fit your personal needs.

Party the Night Away

If you’re always in the mood to party, this is the right place for you. Sabang is the place to party even when you are on a tight budget! A bottle of ice cold local beer will cost you as low as 80 cents and a pitcher of cocktail drink will only cost you $6. Go barhopping with friends and listen to different types of music. There is even live music every weekend. Sabang has a number of bars, discos, pubs, and even exotic dance clubs to choose from. Don’t leave Puerto Galera without trying the island’s signature cocktail drink, the Mindoro Sling. This sweet concoction will keep you asking for more. Just make sure to share the pitcher with your friends instead of finishing it all alone. Experience a different atmosphere and go to Sabang’s famous Floating Bar, which is literally a bar that floats. A small boat will pick you up at the shore and bring you to this happy beer place. The Floating Bar serves both local and imported beers. If you are not really into the lively nightlife, you can just grab a beer and relax on the shore while watching the stars in the sky.

Get Sporty

Sabang is best known for diving but it also offers other opportunities for the sporty or active travelers. Go water skiing and rent a jet ski. Try the thrilling banana boat ride and prepare to be tossed into the water with your friends. Try kayaking and go a couple of beaches away. Explore the Sabang area on your own by renting a four wheel motorbike and discover sights you have never seen before. Spend a quiet and relaxing afternoon at the Ponderosa Golf Club, which is up in the mountains. Whether you’re a golf enthusiast or not, you should not miss the chance to play golf or eat an afternoon snack while enjoying the magnificent panoramic view of the mountains and islands of Puerto Galera.

These are just some of the activities that one can do in Sabang. Such a small island like Sabang has a lot to offer. You can do just about anything and everything there. Indeed, it is a traveler’s paradise!

Nothing compares to the feeling you get in exploring the spectacular underwater world, where only a few can go. Scuba diving has always been both a thrilling and rewarding experience for both beginner and experienced divers. Here are some safety tips to remember while diving for the first time.

Stay Alert and be Observant

It is important to know what to do when the visibility is very poor. This means you have to pay closer attention to what is in front of you. You need to be able to see well and distinguish different objects at proximity. Watch out for creatures like stingrays and jellyfish. Be sure you are prepared to meet any diving emergency that may arise.

Stay close to your dive instructor. If you’re wearing contact lenses and your dive mask floods, close your eyes and flush water from the mask. Also, always monitor your air supply and practice to control your air consumption. Don’t wait for your supply to be really low before ascending into the surface.

Practice your Breathing

Don’t breathe through your nose and never ever hold your breath. Holding your breath can cause damage to your lungs. Keep your breathing steady and focus on what you’re doing. Keep your lips tightly wrapped around the tube or else you will be inhaling water. Breathing steadily will provide sufficient oxygen to make your body function properly.

Bring a Scuba Knife

You can bring a knife to cut tangled leaves, ropes, and fish nets underwater. Make sure that it’s handy and not more than 5 inches long. The blade of the knife is usually made out of titanium or stainless steel. The knife should be used as a safety tool and not a weapon to harm the marine creatures.

Learn the Hand Signals

The different underwater signals should be accurately discussed with your dive guide or dive partner. Hand signals can be recognized from a distance. Be attentive and know how to signal your dive partner. It is important to be able to communicate well with one another.

Don’t Dive Alone

Even if you’re well-prepared for diving, it is still important for you to dive with your instructor or with a group. Always know where your guide is located so you won’t get lost. Listen to his briefing before you jump into the water.

Relax While Diving

The most important thing to remember about diving is to feel secure and comfortable in the water. The last thing that you should do is panic. Too much excitement can lead to rapid arm and leg movements. There is nothing to gain in swimming at a fast pace. You will not only end up using up the air in the tank, but you will also exhaust yourself easily. The slower your pace, the more things you’ll see underwater.

In addition, ascend slowly to the surface to avoid decompression sickness. Stopping for 5 minutes is recommended for every 15 feet. It is also important to maintain neutral buoyancy and to equalize your ears frequently when descending into the water. If you feel like panicking, hold on to a rock and take a break to calm yourself down. Calming down will help overcome your fear. Just relax… diving is supposed to be a fun and phenomenal experience!
